Acid resistance of metakaolin-based, bamboo fiber geopolymer composites

This study focuses on calcined kaolin, commercial sodium silicate, and Amazonian bamboo to make geopolymer. The durability of geopolymer matrix (GP) fiber composite (GPBF) materials was analyzed by studying the resistance exposure sulfuric hydrochloric acids at concentrations from 0 15 wt%, testing two different geometry samples. microstructure raw investigated X-ray fluorescence scanning electron microscopy. Geopolymer formation confirmed diffraction with a characteristic amorphous hump 28° theta few crystalline peaks quartz. Visual appearance, mass change, compressive strength behavior all GP GPBF samples immersed in 0, 5, wt% H2SO4 HCl for 7, 28, 112 days were investigated. did not change no loss observed 0% acid (100% water) solution pH 12, an alkali due partial dissolution NaOH matrix, denoting water. increased varying 10, resulting values 2.7%, 3.5%, 4.4%, respectively. In general, specimens experienced higher degradation when exposed than HCl. can safely be applied as construction applications up or environments, including sewage systems.
